In Memory of Donald L. Williams

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford, with Rev. Michael Curd officiating. Visitation 1-8pm, Wednesday, Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, with the family greeting relatives and friends from 7-8 pm. Memorials have been established to the Milford Back Pack Program or to the People’s City Mission in Lincoln.

Donald Lewis Williams was born January 19, 1927, in Milford, Nebraska to Melvern and Lura Blanche (Hutchinson) Williams, the 9th of 10 children and passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Seward at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 6 days. Don graduated from Milford High School with the Class of 1944. He served his country with the US Navy for 18 months during WWII. On July 29, 1951, he married Lois Ann Gillett, a local teacher and to this union three children, Dave, Beth and Barb were born.

Don was an avid sportsman, playing basketball, baseball, football, swimming, fishing and trapping in his youth. Most recently, Don enjoyed volleyball, golf, bowling and playing cards. Don held a variety of jobs over the years. He worked at the Hatchery and the Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln. He was also an accomplished carpenter for a local contractor in Milford. He retired from SCC – Milford in 1983 as the Purchasing Agent for the college. Don also owned and operated one of the first Christmas tree farms in the State of Nebraska. His many friends knew him for his willingness to lend a hand as well as his compassion for others. He was most happy spending time with his family and his legacy of kindness will forever be remembered. He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #171.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, Milford, daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Brent Adams, Lincoln, Beth and Dennis Green, Ivins, UT, son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Tammy Williams, Milford, six grandchildren and spouses, Mitch Olson and fiancé Janna Andrew, Kristin and Mike Sukraw, Megan and Nate Whitney, Lindsey Adams, Amanda and Heath Hansen, Abby and Toby Pickerill; great-grandchildren, Tessa and Miles Whitney and Harley Hansen, sister, Vida Roll, Friend, brothers and sister-in-law, Oris Williams, Friend, Calvin and Pat Williams, Visalia, CA, Ronald Williams, Henderson,NV, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Vada Lamar, Velda Wolfe and Velma Conkling, brothers, Orville and Melvern Williams.
