Obituary

Victor “Vic” Eugene Hoggins was born March 4, 1932, in Carthage, Missouri to George and Dorothy (Mitchell) Hoggins, oldest of three children and passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Southlake Village Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 86.

As a young boy, Vic and his family lived in Carthage and Bolivar, Missouri, and Wahoo and Neligh Nebraska where he became a 1950 graduate of Neligh High School. He furthered his education by attending Wesleyan University from 1950-1953 and California Mortuary Science school in Los Angeles, California, where he graduated in 1954. He returned to Nebraska, obtained his funeral director license, and for 28 years served the communities of Omaha, Neligh, Superior and Milford. Vic changed professions and took a job as an over the road truck driver, which he retired from 20 years later in 2002. He was active in his community and church and through his determination and positive-energy, he inspired all those around him.

Vic was united in marriage to Nancy Anderson in Council Bluffs, Iowa on August 6, 1956 and to this union were born: George, Kendall, Gretchen, Victor, Tracy, Caroline, and Lorna. Vic’s greatest joy in life was his family, he felt they were his most precious blessing. He always followed all of his children and grandchildren’s activities, and his voice would commonly be heard above the crowd cheering them on. Vic was an avid sportsman, basketball and track in his early years and golf in his middle years. He loved traveling, dancing, reading, and spending time with his family. Vic had an amazing memory and was a wonderful story teller.

Vic is survived by his children: George Hoggins, Kendall (Jeanne) Hoggins, Gretchen Ryan, Victor (Lisa) Hoggins, Tracy (John) Horn, Caroline (Dave) Dahle, Lorna (Eric) Millikan; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Doris Dicknite, Phyllis Ames; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
